Cannabis, Alcohol, Second Homes: Could New Taxes Help Fund Oregon’s Roads?
As Oregon officials explore options to address future transportation funding needs, a funding analysis prepared for policymakers identified more than 50 existing, new, and conceptual revenue sources. Among the options reviewed was a potential 1% increase in the state cannabis tax, which the analysis estimates could generate approximately $17 million annually.
According to ODOT, the funding options matrix was created to provide policymakers with information about current and potential transportation revenue sources. State officials emphasized that the options contained in the document have not been endorsed by the transportation workgroup, Governor Tina Kotek, or other policymakers. The transportation funding workgroup is expected to continue evaluating options as it develops recommendations for lawmakers.
